Walter Leon Cutler is a former United States diplomat who served as Ambassador to Saudi Arabia (1984-87; 88-89), Tunisia (1982-84), Congo-Zaire (1975-79), and as Ambassador-designate to Iran (1979). Other diplomatic assignments included Vietnam, Korea, Algeria and Cameroon; and Assistant Secretary of State for Congressional Relations. He also served as Research Professor of Diplomacy at Georgetown University. From 1989-2006 he was President of Meridian International Center, where he is now President Emeritus. He serves as a Senior Advisor to the Trust Company of the West, and is a member of The Council on Foreign Relations and The American Academy of Diplomacy. He is a graduate of Wesleyan University and The Fletcher School of International Law and Diplomacy.
